Shannon Gillen
Shannon Gillen received her BFA from The Juilliard School where her choreography was produced at Alice Tully Hall, the Peter J. Sharp Theater, and the Clark Studio Theater. Upon graduating, Gillen studied Meisner acting at the Maggie Flanigan Studio and served as choreographer to theater company Sintroca on Lasanta, a multi-disciplinary work, premiering at the Ontological-Hysterics Theater. She went on to present original work at the International Dance Festival, Oltre Passo in Lecce, Italy. In 2008, Gillen was awarded an artist in residency at Dance New Amsterdam, where she founded Shannon Gillen & Guests. Vested in site specific works, the company utilizes different physical and contextual standpoints within a space to construct layered feeling states. These feeling states are rooted in questioning the emotional life embedded in form, content and location.

Rigorous choreographic experimentation and a commitment to the emotional spontaneity of the moment are ultimately what shape the context and performance of the work. Being expressionistic by nature, the creative process is indelibly shaped by the presence of the performers. Shannon Gillen and Guests performed as part of the 2010 Art + Architecture show at the Gowanus Ballroom, and will be returning for the 2011 show. Performers for the 2010 show were: Xan Burley, Janna Diamond and Stephanie Miracle.
