The University of Washington does not require students to live on campus. Although students are not required, about 71% of freshmen choose to live on campus. Housing is not guaranteed but placement in the residence halls is guaranteed for returning residents.

During the 75-minute student-led campus tour you’ll explore 0.8 miles of upper campus covering the Liberal Arts Quadrangle, Red Square, Sylvan Grove and more. With many buildings closed to the public due to COVID-19, the tour will remain outdoors only.

Does UW assign roommates?

If you want to request a specific roommate on your housing application, you will need their UW student ID number. We cannot guarantee requested roommates will be assigned together. Students who request and are approved for a gender-inclusive room will be assigned with another student who has requested the same.
