NASTAR stands for NAtional STAndard Race and is the largest public grassroots ski racing program in the world.
What is a NASTAR course?
Nastar courses are simple, open-gated giant slaloms on mostly intermediate terrain, allowing skiers of all abilities and ages to experience racing. Just as in golf’s handicap system, skiers can compare their times and compete with one another regardless of where and when they compete.

Our mission is simple – to provide a fun, competitive and easily accessible racing program that, through the development of a handicap system, allows racers of all ages and abilities a means to compare their race results to other competitors across the country regardless of when and where they race.

How do you race nastar?
You will be asked to complete a NASTAR Registration Form and the resort will input your information into the NASTAR Software. When the resort uploads the day’s races, a Race Record will be created for you and you will be issued a NASTAR Registration Number.

How do you qualify for NASTAR Nationals?
To qualify for the NASTAR National Championships participants must win a medal on one or more race days. Participants can qualify throughout the season with the last day of qualification on March 31st. Late qualification will take place April 1- 3 at Snowmass and Aspen Mountain.

The NASTAR Handicap is a score that represents your ability. The zero handicap is set by the fastest racer on the U.S. Ski & Snowboard team and your handicap is the percentage you are behind the fastest racer in the country.

It allows ski or snowboard racers of all ages and abilities, through a handicap system, a way to compare themselves with one another and with the national champion, regardless of when and where they race.

The National NASTAR Championship brings together over one thousand participants from the United States and Canada, of all ages and ability groups. The 2006 Championship was held in Steamboat Springs and included 1,337 racers of ages 3 to 86, from 44 U.S. states and Canada.
