How do you do a dilution series?
To perform a serial dilution, a small amount of a well-mixed solution is transferred into a new container, and additional water or other solvent * is added to dilute the original solution. The diluted sample is then used as the base solution to make an additional dilution.
What is a 1/2 dilution?
A 1 to 2 dilution should be written as ½. It means to dilute something in half. But many times it will be written as 1:2.
Why is it called a 1 to 10 dilution?
For example, to make a 1:10 dilution of a 1M NaCl solution, you would mix one “part” of the 1M solution with nine “parts” of solvent (probably water), for a total of ten “parts.” Therefore, 1:10 dilution means 1 part + 9 parts of water (or other diluent).
How do you make 10x 1X?
Since the concentration, 10x is divided by 10 to arrive at a 1x concentration, then the Molar concentration is also divided by 10.
How do you dilute 4 times?
This strategy also works well for making a simple dilution when your end volume doesn’t really matter. For example, if you are making a dilution of bleach for household cleaning, you can quickly mix one part bleach (one ¼ cup scoop) with four parts water (1 cup since ¼ times 4 equals 1) to make your 1:4 dilution ratio.
How do you dilute a concentration?
To make a dilution, you simply add a small quantity of a concentrated stock solution to an amount of pure solvent. The resulting solution contains the amount of solute originally taken from the stock solution but disperses that solute throughout a greater volume.
How do you measure star San dosing rate?
Dosing rate for Star San is 1 ounce per 5 gallons. That’s .2 ounces for 1 gallon. .2 ounces = 5.91 ml. I round that up to 6 CC/ml. I use a glass gallon jug for storage. It takes a while but Star San will eat through thin plastic gallon jugs. I’ve had it happen and it’s not cool. I use a syringe to measure the 6 CCs needed.
Can I re-use diluted Star San mixture?
If you’re going to re-use diluted Star San mixture, you may want to test your solution to make sure it’s under a pH of 3.5. If you source pH test papers for this, make sure they read in that range and, preferably, have a reference point right at 3.5. I recommend the Micro Essential Labs strips linked below.
How does StarStar school generate electricity?
STAR School is completely off the grid, with the school generating its electricity, pumping its own water and relying on a satellite signal for its Wi-Fi. Solar panels and wind turbines dot the campus, and a water well sits behind the administration building.
What percentage of Star students graduate high school within 4 years?
About 80 percent of former STAR students graduate from high school in four years, while 70 percent of the students attend college within a year of graduating. One of those former students, Kira Butler, attended Northwest Indian College on a basketball scholarship after graduating from Flagstaff High School in May 2015.
