What does a 4D scan include?

The regular and well-known 2D ultrasound to see through your baby, resulting in a flat black and white image which shows your baby in the womb. A 4D scan uses the same technique of ultrasound but combines sections of 2D images to create a 3D image which you can see moving in real-time.

Is 26 weeks good for a 4D scan?

The ideal time to have a 3D/4D ultrasound scan is between 26 and 30 weeks of pregnancy as the baby skin is better developed to see the face.

Are 4D baby scans worth it?

Our expert Jane Fisher says: “There is no evidence to suggest that having 3D and 4D scans is any different from the other scans that you have during pregnancy. “But you do need to know though that although the scans can provide memorable images, there is also the possibility of an anomaly being seen.”

Can a 4D scan detect gender?

An ultrasound can detect fluid at the back of a fetus’s neck, which sometimes indicates Down syndrome. The ultrasound test is called measurement of nuchal translucency. During the first trimester, this combined method results in more effective or comparable detection rates than methods used during the second trimester.
