For your safety, we have introduced a range of measures which include postponing feed of the day and the penguin parade. While most of the zoo is now open to visitors, our saki monkey and lemur walkthroughs will remain closed due to the high-risk of Covid-19 to primates.

Who opened Edinburgh Zoo?
Edinburgh Zoo is owned by The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS). The Society was founded in March 1909, and the Zoo opened in July 1913. Set in 82 acres of sloping parkland, the Zoo is situated three miles to the west of Edinburgh city centre.
When did Edinburgh Zoo open after lockdown?
As current Scottish Government guidance means we can open our gates to provide a safe, outdoor environment for City of Edinburgh residents, we are reopening the zoo on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays starting Friday 26 February.

Our car park is currently free to use and has been very popular, which means it can fill up early in the day, especially during busier periods such as school holidays. You will also find two electric car charging points in the zoo’s main car park in dedicated parking bays which are free to use.
