What is DART sterilization?
STERIS Dart® Daily Air Removal Test is an easy and accurate way to test air removal and steam penetration in pre-vacuum steam sterilizers operating at 132 to 134 ºC (270 to 273 ºF). It is a lightweight, compact, one piece system that is pre-assembled and ready for use.
How often should a dart test be done?
Bowie-Dick Tests are used to qualify sterilizer performance when first installed, anytime it is moved, and following a major repair. This is qualification testing and requires three consecutive test cycles with passing results.
What is Bowie and Dickie test?
The Bowie-Dick Test is a standard operational test by which hospitals and laboratories can demonstrate proper air removal from their pre-vacuum autoclave chamber. It is primarily useful for testing pre-vacuum cycles that are sterilizing wrapped goods or packs.
When should the DART be run?
DART buses and trains operate daily from approximately 5 a.m. to midnight. DART Rail offers service every 7½-15 minutes during rush hours, and 20 minutes during the midday and weekends, and 30 minutes late at night. Bus schedules vary by neighborhood.
How do you test an autoclave?
There are three indicators that may be used to detect the efficacy of the autoclave process: (1) Physical: pressure and temperature recording devices, (2) Chemical: indicators that change color after being exposed to specific temperatures, such as temperature sensitive tape.
What is leak test in autoclave?
The Vacuum Leak Test is used to determine the air-tight integrity of a prevacuum autoclave’s chamber and plumbing system. This test exposes the autoclave’s plumbing and components to vacuum conditions and measures how much vacuum depth was lost over a given period of time.
How does a helix test work?
The Helix test checks the ability of the autoclave to sterilise hollow objects such as suction or irrigation tubes. The tests should be carried out daily on a specific cycle, vacuum autoclave, so that the different sterilisation cycles of the day can then be carried out.
What is a Prevacuum sterilizer?
The high-speed prevacuum sterilizers are similar to the gravity displacement sterilizers except they are fitted with a vacuum pump (or ejector) to ensure air removal from the sterilizing chamber and load before the steam is admitted.

How can you be certain that sterilization has been achieved by an autoclave?
The basic principle of steam sterilization, as accomplished in an autoclave, is to expose each item to direct steam contact at the required temperature and pressure for the specified time. Thus, there are four parameters of steam sterilization: steam, pressure, temperature, and time.
