Will quikrete set up without water?
No. Unless you live in a swamp, there won’t be enough moisture, and even if you do it won’t be mixed with the cement properly. The concrete will be dry, crumbly, and have no strength.
Can you dry pour concrete?
As long as you not planning to put anything heavy on it it will be OK. Dry pouring concrete can have dry pockets were water did not get to. Usually using dry pouring to make a drive way for car, garage is sufficient and possibly with some light bearing structures(open steel/wood Structures) .
Why do you put dry concrete in a post hole?
When the concrete is dry-poured then wetted, there are no gaps around the concrete between the post or the soil, which helps negate any erosion that may cause the post to lean. We care less about having a maximum PSI footing and more about having a very tightly-packed hole to keep the post level.
How long does it take fence post cement to dry?
Typically, you can apply some weight to the posts after 4 hours, but it’s a good idea to wait at least 24 hours before resuming fence construction. Standard concrete mixes may take up to two hours to set and should cure for 24 to 48 hours before any forces are applied to the posts.
What happens if you dont water concrete?
Concrete strength depends on the growth of crystals within the matrix of the concrete. These crystals grow from a reaction between Portland cement and water-a reaction known as hydration. If there isn’t enough water, the crystals can’t grow and the concrete doesn’t develop the strength it should.

Does cement harden without water?
If there is less water, the concrete will cure more quickly. This is because there are fewer bonds to make, meaning your full-strength concrete may not be as strong as you need or expect it to be. If there is too much water, it will take longer to cure and you may see flaking on the top layer of concrete.
Does concrete harden without mixing?
Fast-setting concrete is ideal for setting posts because there’s no mixing—you simply pour the dry concrete from the bag right into the hole, then add water.
Can I pour concrete mix in hole and add water?
Application is easy — just dig a hole, pour in the concrete and add water. Then mix the concrete and water by agitating them with a stick until the components are thoroughly combined. How do you make a fence post out of concrete?
Set the post into the hole and attach 2×4 braces to adjacent sides of the post. Use a level to position the post perfectly vertical. Fill the hole with Fast-Setting Concrete up to 3 to 4 inches below ground level. Pour about a gallon of water per 50 lb bag into the hole and allow the water to saturate the concrete mix.
Should I use dry concrete to set fence posts?
Using dry concrete is very helpful in places where a hose is not available and where tool cleanup is not going to occur within the next few hours. I have set hundreds (maybe thousands) of wooden fence posts with dry concrete with satisfactory results (0 fails).
