What is Opti-MEM used for?
Opti-MEM™ I Reduced-Serum Medium is an improved Minimal Essential Medium (MEM) that allows for a reduction of Fetal Bovine Serum supplementation by at least 50% with no change in growth rate or morphology.
Why is opti-MEM used for transfection?
Opti-MEM as it named is an optimized medium for transfection. This medium quanrantees a high transfection efficiency while reducing damage to cells caused by transfection.
Does optimem contain phenol red?
Opti-MEM™ I Reduced Serum Medium, no phenol red.
Can cells survive in Opti-MEM?
Opti-MEM is a serum-reduced media used during transfection of genetic molecules into mammalian cells. However, the impact of such media on cell viability and protein synthesis is unknown. A549 human lung epithelial cell viability and morphology were adversely affected by growing in Opti-MEM.
Does Opti-MEM contain serum?
Opti‐MEM is a serum‐reduced media that contains insulin, transferrin, hypoxanthine, thymidine, and trace elements that compensate for the adverse impact of FBS supplementation reduction with no change in the growth rate or morphology (https://www.thermofisher.com/order/catalog/product/31985070).
What is alpha MEM?
MEM α is a modification of Minimum Essential Medium (MEM) that contains non-essential amino acids, sodium pyruvate, lipoic acid, vitamin B12, biotin, and ascorbic acid. MEM α is available without nucleosides for use as a selection medium for DG44 and other DHFR-negative cells.
Does Opti MEM contain serum?
Is phenol red acidic or basic?
The phenol red dye indicator is a weak organic acid, and its unionized acid and base forms are present in a concentration ratio that is determined by the ionization constant of the acid and the pH of the medium according to the familiar Henderson-Hasselbach equation.
Do cells grow in optimem?
Most cells grown in serum-supplemented media can be transferred to Opti-MEM media with a minimum of 50% reduction in serum.
Can I use DMEM instead of optimem?
In my experience Optimem works better but you can also use successfully for transfection serum-free DMEM or RPMI . Few hours after transfection you then replace the transfection medium with DMEM or RPMI supplemented with serum. Serum free medium works fine, not as much as optimem but it works.
What is the difference between MEM and MEM Alpha?
MEM α is a modification of Minimum Essential Medium (MEM) that contains non-essential amino acids, sodium pyruvate, lipoic acid, vitamin B12, biotin, and ascorbic acid. MEM α is available without nucleosides for use as a selection medium for DG44 and other DHFR-negative cells. This product is made with Earle’s salts.
Does alpha MEM have glucose?
Alpha MEM Eagle with nucleosides, with glutamine, without glucose – 500 mL.
