The hemorrhoidal plexus is a group of veins that surrounds the rectum. It has two parts, internal and external. The inferior rectal veins are located in the external hemorrhoidal plexus. They are surrounded by loose connective tissue, so they do not get much support or constraint from the body.
What is the function of the rectal venous plexus?
The rectal venous plexus (or hemorrhoidal plexus) surrounds the rectum, and communicates in front with the vesical venous plexus in the male, and the vaginal venous plexus in the female. What is vesical venous plexus?
Anatomical terminology. The vesical plexus envelops the lower part of the bladder and the base of the prostate and communicates with the pudendal and prostatic plexuses. It is drained, by means of several vesical veins, into the internal iliac veins.
What vein is connected to the rectum?
The superior rectal vein, or superior hemorrhoidal vein, connects veins surrounding the rectum to the inferior mesenteric vein. The inferior mesenteric vein brings blood from the large intestines to the splenic vein.

The IMV drains the descending colon through the left colic, the sigmoid through the sigmoid vein, and the rectum through the superior rectal vein. The IMV fuses with the splenic vein, which then joins the SMV to form the portal vein.
Where is prostatic venous plexus located?
the prostate
The prostatic venous plexus (also known as Santorini’s plexus) is a network of veins around the anterolateral aspect of the prostate and anterior to the bladder.
Where does prostatic venous plexus drain to?

The prostatic venous plexus drains into the internal iliac vein which connects with the vertebral venous plexus, this is thought to be the route of bone metastasis of prostate cancer. It is sometimes known as “Santorini’s plexus,” named for the Italian anatomist Giovanni Domenico Santorini.
