Is PermaCast the same as fiberglass?
PermaLite® columns are pultruded from fiberglass strands with the same durability as a PermaCast® column with a thinner wall and lighter weight. The caps and bases for fiberglass columns are made from durable, low-maintenance materials with both architectural and historical authenticity or a modern, contemporary look.
Are fiberglass columns load bearing?
Fiberglass columns are a good choice if you need the columns to support the weight of a structure, like a porch roof. The term that refers to this ability is “load- bearing.” In addition to being load-bearing, most fiberglass columns are also weather resistant and insect proof.
What is the difference between PermaCast and PermaLite?
HB&G PermaLite® columns are available in a square and recessed panel style. These lightweight fiberglass columns are great alternatives to the PermaCast® column and offer the same structural properties and aesthetic looks. PermaLite® columns are load bearing, low maintenance, and come with a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
Can you screw into fiberglass columns?
Can you screw into fiberglass columns? Yes, but always pre-drill using the appropriate size drill bit. Countersink in order to conceal the screw head. Be mindful when screwing into thinner fiberglass options and don’t countersink too deep.
Can you cut PermaCast columns?
Yes! Our round taper and no-taper, square, and craftsman fiberglass columns can be split to surround existing support posts. Our PermaLite®, RoughSawn®, and PermaCast® Recessed Panel columns cannot be split by HB&G.

What types of permacast columns are available?
PermaCast ® columns are rot-proof weatherproof, insect proof, and come with a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Round Columns are available fluted or plain. Square columns are available in plain, fluted (in certain sizes), and recessed panel varieties. With the application of different moulding styles, an applied panel column can be achieved as well.
Can permacast columns be split to wrap an existing post?
PermaCast ® columns, excluding RoughSawn ® and Square Recessed Panel, can be factory split to wrap an existing post. Split columns are not load bearing.
Are permacast® round columns load bearing?
Pricing and lead times vary for all custom flutes. Factory Splitting is available for all plain and fluted round columns for use in pilaster applications and to wrap around an existing load-bearing post. Split columns are not load bearing. Decorative, Standard, and Contemporary caps and bases are available for PermaCast ® Round Columns.
What is the difference between permacast and roughsawn?
This PermaCast ® column has all the beauty of a cedar post without the issues of wood. RoughSawn ® columns will not check, twist, split, or rot. They are low maintenance, weather and insect proof, and come with a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
