How do CCLI royalties work?
Royalties are paid to publishers and song owners twice each year – quite a task given the number of songs and publishers covered! At the end of this process, CCLI then publishes a list of the top 100 reported songs for the previous six month period.

Stream licensing is crucial to ensuring that your internet radio station is legally allowed to broadcast copyrighted material such as music. Without it, you could be breaking the law. To legally broadcast most copyrighted material in the U.S., you’ll need to secure a statutory license.
Does CCLI license cover live streaming?
The CCLI Streaming license allows you to stream or podcast your live-recorded worship service music on your church’s website or other streaming services. So you can now include your music along with the Pastor’s message as you webcast your church service.
Do churches pay music royalties?
Yes, there is a copyright exemption but it’s not a get-out-of-jail-free card. You can broadcast your service, without paying for licensing / royalties AS LONG AS YOU AREN’T BROADCASTING MUSIC THAT WOULD OTHERWISE REQUIRE LICENSING.
Do I have to report songs to CCLI?
You don’t need to report that song to CCLI. If possible, you should report on a weekly basis, even if you have nothing to report. Telling us this helps us to know that your reporting is accurate and up-to-date.
What is not covered by CCLI?
Activities Not Permitted Distribute copies of Songs outside of the jurisdiction of your license and church. Copy or duplicate choral sheet music, cantatas, musicals, handbell music, keyboard arrangements, vocal solos, instrumental works or music education publications.

Can you get copyrighted on a live stream?
All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast. When third-party content is identified, a placeholder image may replace your live stream. You’ll be warned to stop streaming the third-party content.

Does CCLI cover recorded music?
The CCLI® Church Copyright Licence™ permits churches to project or print out the words and music to the world’s great worship songs and hymns. With this licence, the church is covered for recording services on behalf of those unable to attend in person.
