Why did the Dayton Arcade close?
The Arcade Close As momentum shifted towards suburban redevelopment, the decision was made to close the Arcade. The City of Dayton opened the Arcade for a seasonal sales event known as Holly Days in 1992 and 1993, but this event did not draw enough interest to reopen the Arcade on a permanent basis.

Can I visit the Dayton Arcade?
The Rotunda has been resurrected as an active public and private event space, managed by Culture Works Events. While community members are encouraged to visit when there is not a private event, it is important to make sure the Rotunda will be open. Currently, the Rotunda is not open to the public.

Why is the Dayton Arcade called Arcade?
The heart of the complex was its glass dome below which were galleries and the market floor. Extending from the rotunda was the glass-covered street, or arcade, which gave the complex its name.

Following Progressive Era’s focuses on public health, the Dayton Arcade was constructed to be a clean and safe hub for food distribution. Originally, the main spaces were used for a major food market, with retail stores, offices, and apartments on the upper floors.
