What is ODS on a car?
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards require the use of an Occupant Detection System (ODS).
What is the OPDS?
OPDS is Occupant Position Detection System It’s used to detect the size of the occupant in the passenger seat. If it detects a child sitting in the seat, it will not deploy the airbag.
Should I drive with OD on or off?
In an automatic vehicle, overdrive is always on by default. For most driving situations, you should leave it on. This allows your vehicle to use all of its available gears including the highest ones. Overdrive maximizes fuel economy and keeps NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) at a more tolerable level.
Should the OD off light be on?
It is recommended that you leave OD on while you are driving. Because automatic cars are equipped with an automatic transmission shifting automatically by itself to change gears from low to highest gear and from high to lower gear.
What is occupant sensing airbag?
Air bag occupant sensors, as mentioned, are installed in the seat to measure when a passenger is in that seating position. This allows the airbag control module to activate the airbags in that position when needed or deactivate the airbags in that position when they are not.
What is SRS fuse?
The car’s onboard computer will turn on the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Warning Light if the system will not operate properly or operate outside of intentions. This system is designed to deploy air bags and tighten seat belts when the computer determines the car is in an accident.
Why won’t the ODS or ODS initialize?
The occupant detection system (ODS) or occupant position detection system (OPDS) may not initialize if there are SRS DTCs or an SRS unit problem. The scan tool is the preferred method for initialization because it has the ability to confirm proper completion.
What should I do if the occupant detection system (ODS) does not initialize?
The occupant detection system (ODS) or occupant position detection system (OPDS) may not initialize if there are SRS DTCs or an SRS unit problem. The scan tool is the preferred method for initialization because it has the ability to confirm proper completion. If normal troubleshooting doesn’t resolve the problem, do this:
What causes DTCs and SRS/ODS initialization failure?
Due to seat movement and wear, damaged seat wiring harnesses may cause DTCs and SRS/ODS initialization failure. Occupant detection systems have evolved through several configurations and subsystems since their introduction. Through the years, the design of these systems and service manual terminology have also changed, as detailed in this table:
What does ODS stand for?
ODS unit replaced. The occupant detection system (ODS) or occupant position detection system (OPDS) may not initialize if there are SRS DTCs or an SRS unit problem. The scan tool is the preferred method for initialization because it has the ability to confirm proper completion.
