The RoHS 2 directive (2011/65/EU) is an evolution of the original directive and became law on 21 July 2011 and took effect on 2 January 2013. It addresses the same substances as the original directive while improving regulatory conditions and legal clarity.
When were phthalates added to RoHS?

Back to June 2015, four phthalates (DEHP, DBP, BBP and DIBP) were added the list of restricted substances in Annex II of RoHS 2 through an amendment by Directive (EU) 2015/8632.
When did RoHS 3 go into effect?

RoHS 3 (EU 2015/863) expands the list of prohibited substances from six to ten by adding four new types of phthalates. This directive has been adopted by the EU legislature and came into full force on the 22nd of July 2019 with a special provision for medical devices until 2021 (see below for details).
