Can you camp on public land in Idaho?
Most BLM sites in Idaho are offered on a first- come, first-serve basis. In undeveloped areas, you may camp for up to 14 days before having to move at least 25 miles from your original spot. You may not return to that area for 28 consecutive days. Choose camp sites that have already been used or established.

A full 61% of Idaho’s land is considered public, so boondocking is absolutely legal here. Anywhere you can find a suitable large area to pull off the road on public land is considered fair game.

Yes, the Forest Service calls it “dispersed camping.” You are allowed to camp almost anywhere in the forest unless it is posted otherwise.
Can you have a campfire on BLM land in Idaho?
No. Your public lands remain open for use. However, in the event of a fire, there may be temporary road or area closures associated with the incident to provide for public and firefighter safety.
How do you avoid bears in Idaho?
Keep your sleeping area (tent, sleeping bag, pad) free of food and odors. Don’t sleep in clothes you wore while cooking or handling fish or game. Clean grills and store them where bears can’t get to them. Use bear-resistant trash receptacles and food-storage lockers.
Can you have camp fires in Idaho?
