Azimuth refers to the rotation of the whole antenna around a vertical axis. It is the side to side angle. Typically you loosen the main mount bracket and swing the whole dish all the way around in a 360 deg circle. By definition North is 0 deg, East is 90 deg, South is 180 deg and West is 270 deg.

It gives the same values as SMW but then goes on to say that they should be adjusted by +3.5º in the case of Hotbird and +7º in the case of the Astra systems because they’re not actually positioned in alignment with the axis of the earth. Can anyone corroborate or refute that statement?

They were derived from the downloadable software provided free of charge by SMW. However I’ve just had an email from someone querying the skew values and referring me to this website.
Why is the polarisation at Astra 28E different to Astra 19E?
The simple answer may be that by having the polarisation “pre-skewed” at Astra 28E, the skew on the user’s LNB is the same as for Astra 19E – about 13 degrees for both sats. It would be very convenient for those of us who don’t have motorised dishes, to have all of the satellites pre-skewed so that the same LNB orientation would do for them all.
