Created as a stepping stone for Punch Through clients, the LightBlue® iOS and Android apps help teams with simple BLE debugging and prototyping. When our mobile team is between client projects they spend time helping the development community by supporting and improving LightBlue®.

To use an iOS device as an iBeacon, you do the following:
- Obtain or generate a 128-bit UUID for your device.
- Create a CLBeaconRegion object containing the UUID value along with appropriate major and minor values for your beacon.

How do I use the Bluetooth scanner app?
Attaching to Android Device:
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth.
- Push button on scanner then scan Disconnect barcode under “Getting Connected” of scanner documentation.
- Scan the “BT mode – HID” barcode.
- Tap “Wireless Scanner” listed on the Android device.
How do I use the BLE scanner app?
Run the example “BLE Scan” from the Workbench window. If you use the TI SensorTag, press the “activate” button on the tag. If everything works, the app should automatically detect BLE devices within range and display the signal strength for each device.
Is iBeacon dead?
One well-reported software quirk exists on 4.2 and 4.3 Android systems whereby the system’s bluetooth stack crashes when presented with many iBeacons. This was reportedly fixed in Android 4.4. 4. iBeacon technology never really got off the ground and is as of 2021, as good as dead.
Can iBeacon work without an app?
Summary: For installations with regular beacons (an ibeacon is a type of beacon) then you cannot do much without an app, as you cannot interact with users (even after the additions from Eddystone).
