How do you set up an Impella?
Open the white connector cable package and place the cable in the sterile field. Open the Impella catheter sterile tray when setup is complete and pass the Impella 2.5 or Impella CP into the sterile field. Connect the white connector cable to red Impella plug.
How do you monitor Impella?
Proper positioning of the Impella 2.5 and Impella CP can be verified by two waveforms called the placement signal (red) and motor current (green). The placement signal displays pressure (in millimeters mercury) throughout the cardiac cycle generated from an open pressure area.
How do I check my Impella placement?
When assessing Impella position, the teardrop should be about 3.5 cm from the aortic valve annulus to ensure that the inflow is in the mid-ventricular cavity away from any mitral structures. This position helps minimize hemolysis, suction alarms, and the chance of the Impella being pulled further into the ventricle.
What is the difference between a balloon pump and an Impella?
The Impella heart pump has fewer adverse effects than the IABP. Patients supported with the Impella heart pump have fewer repeated hospital readmissions compared to patients supported with the IABP.
What does P level mean in Impella?
performance level
Flow Control adjusts the performance level (P-level) of the Impella pump. Display allows you to switch between the placement screen and other Impella screens. Purge Menu provides access to information about the purge system. Menu is primarily used to assess alarm histories.
Can you do CPR on a patient with an Impella?
Cardiopulmonary support (CPR) should be initiated immediately per hospital protocol if indicated for any patient supported with the Impella® RP Catheter. When initiating CPR, reduce the Impella® RP Catheter flow rate.
Is an Impella a balloon pump?
The most common devices are the intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), the Impella and the extracorporeal membrane oxygenator (ECMO).
Is an Impella an LVAD?
Impella Ventricular Support System is a small Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD). It is designed to help pump blood in patients who require short term support.
How long can an Impella stay in place?
It is designed to provide haemodynamic support for up to 30 days. Like the Impella 5.0, the Impella 5.5 device is an axial flow transaortic cardiac support device mounted on a 9 Fr steering catheter with a 21 Fr pump cannula.
