Can magnesium be cast?
Magnesium die castings can be designed with thin walls in areas where strength is not a concern and with thicker walls in areas where strength requirements are higher. Magnesium can be cast with thinner walls (1–1.5 mm) compared to aluminum (2–2.5 mm).
Is magnesium easy to cast?
Magnesium alloys are known for their castability. The high fluidity of magnesium alloys makes them easy to cast. So, intricate features and thin walls are easier to implement with magnesium alloy casting.
What companies use die casting?

Is investment casting better than die casting?
When casting in high volume, die casting is more cost effective than investment casting. If you are casting only a few parts or require larger size or stainless steel, investment casting may be the lower cost option.
Is aluminum or magnesium harder?
While there have been experiments conducted to substitute magnesium for aluminum, it is still softer, less stable, more expensive and tends to bend easier when under stress. While aluminum alloys take longer to solidify compared to magnesium alloys, its alloys provide a longer die life.
What products are made by die casting?
In fact, die-cast parts can be found in many things; you are probably just unaware that they are made from die-cast metal. Locks and gears are common finished products. Other examples are hooks, toys, door handles, pumps, power tool housing, golf clubs and general engineering castings.
Why investment casting is not suitable for large casting?
Disadvantages of Investment Casting The most significant disadvantage is the size limitation. Because so few design engineers can produce large parts using this technique, it may not be the best option for a client who needs to fabricate a bulky component. This process is best for casting small intricate components.
Is magnesium cheaper than aluminum?
Despite its advantages, magnesium is still not as stable as aluminum. It bends easier under stress. And it’s more expensive than aluminum.
