Should I remove filter when vacuuming water?

For one, all dry-use filters on the shop vacuum must be removed. With most models, this includes the paper bag and paper filter but not the foam filter. Paper filters become water-logged, impeding airflow. For another—and most importantly—the water cannot be allowed to rise as high as the motor and fan.

Does Karcher need bags?

YES. You can buy bags specific to Karcher. I found it necessary to use paper bags when sucking up ash, cement dust etc (if you don’t fit them then the filter just gets clogged up). However the paper bags puncture fairly easily so they can’t be reused many times.
