The Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU) is a specialised clinic dedicated to providing care to women in early pregnancy. Indications for referral to the EPAU include: vaginal bleeding and/or pain. history of previous ectopic pregnancy and/or other risk factors for ectopic pregnancy.
What is obstetric assessment unit?
About the unit. The unit provides emergency and follow-up antenatal care for women over 18 weeks gestation with specific pregnancy-related problems. It is midwifery-led, with support from an obstetrician (doctor who specialises in the care of women during pregnancy) when needed.

Postnatal (Templar) ward: A single visitor, the same visitor each day, can be with your 24 hours a day on the postnatal ward if you wish. We cannot accommodate more than one visitor, including any children, on the ward at present, and cannot accommodate swapping.

How do I get referred to EPU? This is a walk in service meaning that you can self-refer and do not need to have seen a GP first. You must have a positive pregnancy test but be less than 14 weeks pregnant. We will see any woman who arrives at the clinic before 11am.

Will I get an early scan after 2 miscarriages?
An early scan is much less likely to be offered in pregnancy after a miscarriage, unless you have miscarriage symptoms. This may be very difficult to cope with, especially if you had a missed or silent miscarriage, with no signs that anything was wrong.

Nominated support partners can attend the 12 week scan. Nominated support partners can attend the 20 week scan. Nominated support partners can be with the mother through labour and birth. This applies to mothers having a spontaneous or induced labour.

The Maternity Triage is an assessment area which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from 16 weeks of your pregnancy, up until six weeks following the birth of your baby.

Does Homerton Hospital have private rooms?
There are four individual birthing rooms with ensuite bathrooms. Each room has a pool where women can have a water birth if they choose. We also have pools that can be set up in the rooms that don’t have a permanent pool. We would encourage all low risk women to have their baby in the birth centre.
Is there parking at Homerton Hospital?
There are car parking spaces for patients and visitors limited to 30 free minutes. After 5pm each day, weekends and bank holidays, parking is also available in the car park at the front of the hospital for all visitors and patients.
