What is the A1 English test?
Level A1 corresponds to basic users of the language, i.e. those able to communciate in everyday situations with commonly-used expressions and elementary vocabulary.

IELTS Life Skills at CEFR Level A1 takes 16–18 minutes, IELTS Life Skills at CEFR Level A2 takes no more than 20 minutes and Level B1 is 22 minutes. There is no break between speaking and listening components as you will be assessed on both skills at the same time.

Who is exempt from A1 English test?
Only applicants above the age of 18 and under the age of 65 are subject to testing. If an applicant has a degree, masters or PhD taught or researched in English, this will usually exclude them from the requirement. Nationals from listed countries that predominantly speak English are also exempt.
