Just want to make sure you realize Kent USA lathes are made in China. They have the same problem that I have with most Chinese lathes (including my Jet) that the compound slide is not wide and low enough leading to marginal stiffness. I did a lot of work on mine and it does fine work now.

What kind of oil do you use on a monarch lathe?
The lathe should be thoroughly oiled throughout.. In the headstock and apron we recommend the use of a high grade oil the equivalent of SAE-30.
