No, UN Volunteers are not UN staff members. They have the status of UN Personnel. UN Volunteer onsite assignments are governed by the applicable Conditions of Service and the terms of the contract issued in each case. Do UN online volunteers get paid?
UN Volunteer assignments are not salaried, but include a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA). The VLA is supposed to cover the cost of living and varies depending on the duty station. UN Volunteers are also provided with health & life insurance.
