Will we ever get pictures of exoplanets?
In a few rare cases, astronomers have been able to snap pictures of exoplanets, but those have been very special cases — nearby, absolutely massive planets. Even if we were to find an Earth 2.0, we wouldn’t be able to take a picture of it. As an example, the largest optical telescope will soon be the Vera C.

When checking back to their density wave simulations, they found that this twist was reproduced almost perfectly. The researchers believe that their discovery provides strong evidence that a new giant planet is currently forming around AB Aurigae – the first time that astronomers have ever witnessed such a process.

The new planet is the third planet that’s been found in its planetary system. It’s called Proxima d and its neigboring planets are called Proxima b and Proxima c. Proxima b was first spotted in 2016 and finally confirmed in 2020.

The James Webb Space Telescope will map the atmosphere of exoplanets. Exoplanets, planets that orbit stars other than the sun, are found at distances very far from Earth. For example, the closest exoplanet to us, Proxima Centauri b, is 4.2 light-years away, or 265,000 times the distance between the Earth and the sun.

Can we travel to exoplanets?
Will a person ever go to an exoplanet? Not anytime soon, given the enormous distances between the stars and the time it would take to travel between them with our current technology. Perhaps one day a robot will visit an exoplanet like the rovers on Mars. But that day too is still very far in the future.
