What is Cetrotide injection used for?
Cetrotide (cetrorelix) is a gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist that temporarily delays ovulation. It is used to prevent eggs from being released too early and can help your provider be more successful during your egg retrieval procedure.
What does Cetrotide do during IVF?
Use of Cetrotide in Fertility Treatment When a woman is undergoing IVF, the release of the egg needs to be prevented so that the mature eggs can be harvested directly from the ovaries. Cetrotide controls the secretion of the luteinizing hormone that starts the ovulation process and blocks the effects of GnR Hormones.
Is Cetrotide injection painful?
Common side effects include: headache, bruising, itching, swelling, pain or redness in your abdomen where you injected CETROTIDE, and feeling sick (nausea).
What does Cetrotide feel like?
nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; rapid weight gain, especially in your face and midsection; little or no urination; or. pain when you breathe, rapid heart rate, feeling short of breath (especially when lying down).
Do hormone injections hurt?
Receiving hormone injections can be brutally painful. The needles I had to use were long and thick (as they are for every woman), and they have to be injected into the midsection multiple times a day. The result can be extensive swelling and bruising, so finding ways to minimize pain became a major priority for me.
Can Cetrotide make you feel sick?
Nausea, headache, or pain/bruising/redness/swelling/itching at the injection site may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Does Cetrotide cause weight gain?
A small number of female patients treated with Cetrotide have developed ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). Symptoms of OHSS include severe pelvic pain, swelling of the hands or legs, abdominal pain and swelling, shortness of breath, weight gain, low urine output, diarrhea, and nausea or vomiting.
Can I drink coffee during IVF?
We recommend that patients limit themselves to a maximum of one or two cups of coffee (or other caffeinated beverages) a day while undergoing IVF. Another good alternative is to try to switch to decaf coffee, which can satisfy cravings without providing a full dose of caffeine, and its unwanted side effects.
How can I make progesterone injections less painful?
DO NOT apply ice to your hips before giving progesterone shots. This can make your muscles tighten and may cause more pain instead of less. Apply moist heat AFTER giving after progesterone shots. Microwavable heating pads are great, but other types of heating pads are fine, too.
How do you numb your skin before an injection?
Numb Your Skin Apply an ice pack to the injection site about 15 minutes before you plan to administer your medication. Numbing the skin will temporarily reduce pain and serve as another distraction since your skin will be very cold! Your doctor can also prescribe numbing cream.
